Kuwait’s MOI re-launched its online visa platform. Single-entry visas can be issued with 1, 2, or 3-month validity, and multiple-entry visas are available for 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year. Each entry’s stay is capped at 30 days.

SAMPLE

Kuwait Family Visa Types

A) Family Visit Visa – single entry (1- or 3-month validity)

  • Purpose: short family visits (spouse, children, parents, close relatives).
  • Validity to enter: 1, 2, or 3 months from issuance (you must enter within this window).
  • Stay per entry: up to 30 days.

B) Family Visit Visa – multiple entry (up to 1 year)

  • Purpose: repeated family visits within the year.
  • Stay per entry: up to 30 days. Availability shown in the MOI portal by category/nationality.

C) Friends (non-relatives) coming to Kuwait

  • Use a Tourist e-Visa (no kinship), or a hotel/company sponsor if needed. Multiple-entry options exist on the new system, depending on your category.

D) One-year multiple-entry Business / Government visit (for reference)

  • Requires a Kuwaiti company/government invitation; per entry stay 30 days.

Where & how you apply (all nationalities)

Primary channel: MOI Visa Platform 👉 Kuwait Visa (e-visa)https://kuwaitvisa.moi.gov.kw

  • Create an account, choose Family / Tourist / Business / Government, select single or multiple entry & validity, complete details, upload documents, pay online, and download the e-visa/entry permit.

Alternative (for family visits): Sponsor can apply at a Residency Affairs office using the Family Visit service (paper+online hybrid) shown on the Kuwait Government Online. Fees on KGO show KD 3 for the visa issuance (portal may show the exact fee at checkout).

Tip: The portal itself shows the actual options and fees for your nationality and purpose (tourist e-visa fees commonly ~US$10–30).

Documents — by visitor type

Common to all visit/tourist applicants

  • Passport valid 6+ months & clear bio page.
  • Recent photo (white background).
  • Return/onward ticket & accommodation proof (hotel or host address).
  • Travel/medical insurance (often requested).

Sponsor (Kuwait resident) — if sponsoring Family Visit

  • Sponsor’s Civil ID copy; passport copy.
  • Visit application (from portal or office).
  • Proof of relationship (see below).
  • Employer salary/work certificate may be shown on some KGO office routes, though MOI’s recent guidance de-emphasizes salary thresholds; follow the portal’s checklist for your case.

Spouse (Family Visit)

  • Marriage certificate proving the relationship.
  • If not issued in Kuwait: home-country legalization, Kuwait Embassy legalization, then MOFA–Kuwait attestation; Arabic translation by a translator accredited with the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), then MoJ translation ratification.

Children (Family Visit)

  • Birth certificate (same attestation/translation chain as above, if foreign-issued).

Parents / other close relatives (Family Visit)

  • Documents that prove kinship (e.g., your birth certificate showing parents’ names; siblings may require multiple documents). Follow the same attestation + Arabic translation rules.

Friends (Tourist e-Visa)

  • No kinship proof. Usually passport, photo, ticket, accommodation/host details, and insurance. Some nationalities (e.g., U.S.) may also get a visa-on-arrival; GCC residents recently gained a tourist VOA option. Check portal eligibility.

Business / Government visit (for 1-year multi-entry)

  • Official invitation from a Kuwaiti company or government entity uploaded/verified via the portal; the sponsor entity may need to register first.

Which documents need verification/attestation & by whom

For civil-status documents (marriage, birth, etc.) issued outside Kuwait:

Home country

  1. Get the original from the issuing authority.
  2. Authenticate/legalize per your country (e.g., State authority → national Foreign Affairs).
  3. Legalize at the Kuwait Embassy/Consulate in that country.

In Kuwait
4) MOFA–Kuwait attestation (standard 5-KD stamp; appointment may be required).
5) Arabic translation by a MoJ-accredited translator.
6) MoJ translation ratification (formal ratification of the Arabic translation).

MOI also stresses that documents must be in Arabic (or officially translated). Embassy-issued “relationship” letters alone are not accepted for family visas—bring the properly legalized originals.

Step-by-step — do it exactly like this

A) 1-month (single-entry) Family Visit Visa

  1. Sponsor (Kuwait resident) logs in at the MOI Visa portal → Family Visit VisaSingle entry; choose 1-month validity.
  2. Fill visitor details and upload: visitor passport, sponsor Civil ID, attested & Arabic marriage/birth/kinship proof as applicable.
  3. Pay fee online (portal shows exact amount; KGO shows KD 3 for family visit via office route).
  4. Receive e-visa/entry permit. The visitor must enter within the 1-month validity period. Stay is up to 30 days from entry.

B) 3-month (single-entry) Family Visit Visa

  • Do the same steps but select 3-month validity. You still get max 30 days stay after entry; you just have a longer window to enter.

C) 1-year multiple-entry Family Visit Visa

  1. In the portal, choose Family VisitMultiple entry1-year validity (if enabled for your nationality/category).
  2. Upload the same documents as a single entry.
  3. After approval, the visitor may enter multiple times during the year; each entry allows up to 30 days.

D) Friends (Tourist e-Visa) — single or multiple entry

  1. Apply on the MOI portal under Tourist (no kinship).
  2. Upload passport, photo, flight + accommodation, and insurance if prompted.
  3. Select single or multiple entries (options vary by category/nationality on the portal).

E) Business / Government — multi-entry up to 1 year

  1. Kuwaiti company/government registers on the portal and issues an invitation.
  2. Applicant completes the e-visa using the invitation.
  3. Choose multi-entry (3/6/12 months) as offered; stay per entry 30 days.

Practical notes & edge cases

  • GCC residents (non-citizens) now have a tourist visa-on-arrival under updated rules—confirm eligibility on the portal.
  • Some carriers/press note return tickets on Kuwait Airways or Jazeera for family visits; check your approval email/portal notes.
  • Overstays trigger fines and possible bans; no status conversion from visit to residency. Always exit/renew on time.
